Tell our readers briefly about yourself.
My name is Klaudia Sonas, and I am the author of the debut young adult fantasy novel, 'Sednaam: the Heart of the Earth'. I am originally from Poland, but I left my home country in 2008 in search of new adventures and opportunities. Growing up, I was surrounded by books and stories, and I have always had a passion for writing. With 'Sednaam: the Heart of the Earth', I was finally able to bring my own imagination to life and share it with readers around the world. I am excited to see where this journey takes me next, and I hope to continue inspiring others to pursue their dreams and embrace their inner adventurer.
Can you tell us about your most recent release? Album? Song? Art piece? Etc.?
My most recent release is my debut young adult fantasy novel, 'Sednaam: the Heart of the Earth'. I have also released a short story after Sednaam. "Tales of the Mystical Forest - Borovit" delves deeper into Borovit's backstory and sheds light on his motivations and actions in the novel. I am excited to continue expanding upon the world of 'Sednaam' and sharing new stories with my readers.
What inspires you?
For me, the inspiration for my writing comes from a variety of sources, including my own personal experiences, the natural world, mythology and folklore, and the works of other authors and artists. I am inspired by the power of imagination and the endless possibilities that it presents. I find inspiration in the small moments of everyday life, as well as in the grand adventures that take us beyond our everyday reality.
What is your creative work routine like? Do you balance it with another job?
I am currently employed as a designer but aspire to become a full-time author. I devote my spare time to writing, often early in the morning or in the evenings and weekends, whenever I can find the time.
Do you plan out your creations? What is your process before you create?
My writing process typically involves creating a rough plot outline, sketching out my characters and developing their personalities. While I have a clear idea of how I want the story to end and the sub-plots I wish to incorporate, I deliberately leave room for flexibility in the narrative. This approach allows me to incorporate new ideas as they emerge during the writing process, which adds an exciting element of spontaneity to my work.
Do you have a self-care routine or want to have one? What do you do or wish that you did to take care of your mental health?
I prioritize my physical and mental well-being by incorporating practices such as meditation and a brief yoga into my morning routine. Additionally, I enjoy taking walks in the forest with my dog or going for a swim. Swimming laps provides me with an excellent opportunity to clear my mind and generate creative ideas. The repetitive motion of the activity allows my body to engage in a meditative state, which often leads to breakthroughs in my writing.
What is your favorite creation thus far?
Writing 'Sednaam' is a fulfilling and enjoyable experience for me, as it brings to life the world that I would love to inhabit. The story incorporates many elements that I am passionate about, such as the use of herbs and gemstones, meditation, and a fantastical world of adventure, complete with unique flora and fauna. Additionally, the inclusion of Druid and Viking characters adds an extra layer of interest to the story. Set in Ireland, a country that holds a special place in my heart, 'Sednaam' provides an immersive and exciting experience that draws upon many of my favorite aspects of storytelling.
Do you have a character that is your favorite over others you've written into creation?
Creating the character of Lilia for my story was an enjoyable experience for me, as I was able to draw upon my own experiences as a teenage girl. While Lilia and I may share some similar interests, it's important to note that she is not a copy of myself. Instead, I aimed to create a unique and distinct character with her own personality, motivations, and quirks.
Are there any recurring themes in your work?
The recurring themes in my work include fantasy, adventure, herbalism, and exploring the natural world. Additionally, my writing often incorporates mythical creatures and draws inspiration from your Polish roots and childhood love for books and stories.
What does success look like to you considering your creative passion?
Success to me involves pursuing my creative passions as a writer and potentially becoming a full-time author. I find fulfillment in creating stories that transport readers to fantastical worlds, inspire a love for magic, and promote personal growth and development.
What is something your fans/readers/followers don’t know about you or something unique about yourself?
I hiked 1400 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail in the United States armed only with a backpack and a tent. The experience was truly unforgettable, and I wish I could have completed the entire trail. The journey taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, resilience, and the beauty of nature. I'm not just an author - I'm also an animal advocate and a committed vegan of ten years. I strongly believe in promoting a healthy lifestyle for both body and mind. That's why, in my stories, I always try to highlight the importance of taking care of ourselves and the world we live in. I want to inspire my readers to recognize their own power to make positive changes in the world, whether it's through living a healthier lifestyle, advocating for animal rights, or simply being kinder to one another.
What advice would you share with new or aspiring authors/singers/artists/etc?
Remember, writing is a journey, and success often comes from perseverance, hard work, and a willingness to learn and improve. So, keep writing, stay motivated, and don't be afraid to take risks and try new things.
Where do you get your ideas for world-building?
I get my ideas for world-building from a variety of sources, including mythology, history, nature, and my own imagination. Sometimes a particular place or culture will inspire me, and I'll start thinking about what it would be like to live in that world. Other times, I'll be inspired by a particular concept, like the power of gemstones or the role of meditation in magic, and I'll start exploring how that might work in a fictional setting. Ultimately, the most important thing is to stay curious and keep an open mind. Inspiration can come from the most unexpected places, and you never know where your next great idea might come from.
What genre do you prefer to read?
YA Fantasy, light women's fiction, crime
What hobbies do you have?
I lead an active lifestyle that includes a variety of sports such as badminton, swimming, and fitness. In addition, I enjoy taking salsa lessons and expressing my creativity through painting and drawing. Of course, I also have a great love for reading and exploring new worlds through literature.
